Summer Literacy Program
2/1/08
Committee Members: Rich Moore, Susan Grask, Lee Robertson, Teri Vasile, Darleen Horvath (teacher), and Lydia Henderson (teacher)
Classes are to be held on Tuesday and Thursday of each week during the 9-week program. Times for each group are as follows:
· 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Grade 1 & Grade 2) = 10 kids
· 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Grade 3 & Grade 4) = 10 kids
Studies for each group will be broken down to two more groups, total of 5 in each group. Each Session will have 1-hour computer time and 1-hour workbook/reading/interactive class work. Once their hour is up, they will switch.
Dates for the program are as follows:
Thursday, May 22 & Friday, May 23 - Registration at the Woodridge CRC
Tuesday, June 10 & Thursday, June 12 - Pretest for baseline
Tuesday, June 16 - Classes Begin
Tuesday, July 15 - Mid-term Informal Assessments
Tuesday, August 12 & Thursday, August 14 - Final Testing
Thursday, August 14 –Showcase for Kids and Parents at the Woodridge CRC at 7 p.m. – Work with Shanahan’s for refreshments.
Software update – Darleen says they have programs on the internet like “Starfall” and SEDL (Quality After School Learning) by Harvard University. She will be looking into the costs so that we can may a good decision whether we purchase the Rosetta Stone materials. She is also looking at what workbooks etc. we will need and the will work with Teri on getting them from Follett for a better cost.
Darleen and Lydia will be coming up with a fun name for this program.
2/19/08 – update – program will be called “Catch the Reading Craze”.
